Granite Counter Tops in Kitchen

We decided to put Granite counter tops in the kitchen. We had been in our house for 9 days without any kitchen counter tops, kitchen sink or a dishwasher. Dustin was leaving to Canada the week of May 10th. So if they didn't get any part of the counter top done until Dustin got back from Canada it would be at least another week w/o a working kitchen. Peter, the counter top man, told us it wouldn't be until after the 10th. We asked them if there was any way they could at least get the bar done, then they could come back next week and finish up the rest. They said they could do that. So they came on the May 9th and then the rest of the weekend Dustin got our dishwasher hooked up and sink....and now we have a full running kitchen.

They pulled up to the front door to unload it.

Lifting the piece on to the bar. Peter was able to cut it out of one piece of granite, so there is no seam in it.

Holding sinks while the epoxy dries.

We love our kitchen.

We picked a color called Venetian Gold. We LOVE it. Our last house we did a dark black and brown. We wanted to try something different. We had seen this chipped edge in Utah and asked Peter about it. He had never heard about it, no one had in this area. Peter first said that if we wanted the chipped edge done, he wondered if we would go in 1/2 with the machine ($1,000). Dustin told him if we were going to 1/2, we would just buy it for future projects. We didn't hear back. Once we got ready to put the kitchen in we asked Peter about edges and he said he had bought the machine. Ya! So it is hard to see it in the picture, but all the edges are chipped, and you can see the granite through it all. Beautiful!

Carpet Going In

The carpet guys came just 1 day before we moved in....we barely made it:)! We picked out a carpet color and only saw a small piece of this carpet. When the guys came to put it in and I saw it on the truck, it looked really light and it made me nervous. Once they got it in, Dustin and I LOVED it. It is exactly what we wanted. It has multi colors of flex in it....and it is dark enough for little boys! Everything is carpeted except the stairs, 'piano' room, and the master bedroom.

Kitchen Cabinets

We chose Hickory Cabinets with a natural finish. The cabinet guys wanted $3,000 just to install the cabinets. Dustin decided to do it and save the money. The kitchen is looking good.

Bathroom Tile

Downstairs bathroom tile done. Now on to grouting!

Staircase going up

We got our materials in UT and saved $2,800 by doing so! I will feel much better once it is all done, so I don't have to worry about the boys any more falling off the top ledge.

Tile in Kitchen

We used 2 different colors and 2 different sizes of tile and then Dustin did the pin will pattern in the kitchen. It turned out great.

It is looking more like a house!

Porches

Getting the porches ready to pour concrete in.

Stamped and colored. We were worried how dark they turned out, but Vick assured us that once they sealed it, it would lighten up!

And they did lighten up. Sealed and Done.

Concrete

Vick and his guys came out to pour the concrete. We did a 30 x 40 foot slab.

They got to the very last corner and they ran out of concrete. Vick looked at Dustin w/o saying anything and Dustin said "go for it. . . ."

They hurried and took off the bottom form and removed 6 inches of concrete along that edge that they had already poured, then moved it to the corner to fill in the hole.

Letting the concrete cure.

Edging the concrete that has already been broomed.

Laying Ditramat

Cleaned floors and laying down Ditramat, so Dustin could start to tile.

Well and Sewer

The guys came out that we hired to finish up the Well and the Sewer.

Well.

Sewer.

Hinges And Door Knobs Going On

Hall Closet. A Bedroom. Dustin's Dad, Michael, and his friend helped put some hinges and door knobs on. They finished up with the downstairs....Thanks guys!

Trim, Painting Doors, Paint Entire Interior of House

We took these pictures March 18th. After FINALLY deciding what color to paint the house, I decided I never want to look at a magazine, paint chip, test quart, color book, or paint book again. We had seen an entire house in UT done in a sage green and loved it, but felt like we needed to play it more 'safe' since we know we are selling the house in a year or so. We didn't want to go to dark or to light, and by the time we HAD to decide, I didn't care anymore, I just wanted the color picked so Dustin and Joel could start painting. So we went with a Beige color for the main house, 2 rooms/storage room "garden green", 2 rooms a dark brown, and the master a darker beige!

This is the storage room and 1 bedroom.

Taping off the trim before the room is painted.

And yes that is all one color....It is just interesting how the light from the windows change the beige color.

Upstairs Living Room.

Joel taped in a closet and a bedroom spraying.

Doors painted white, then covered so the guys could paint the rooms.

Getting ready to paint....again.

Kitchen/Dining Room.

Master Bedroom. "Piano room" still isn't done. Dustin will be putting some kind of waynes coating on the bottom then spraying it a gloss white.

Bathroom/Bedroom.

In WY we cut the corners of the trim to match the rest of the trim. We saw this idea and decided to try something different!
